Funk Estate Shout Out Stout

I wasn't planning to write about three beers in one night, and I also wasn't planning to drink a can of stout on a hot Summer's night, but I enjoyed this beer so much that I couldn't help myself.

It started with my wife pouring the beer, ending with a nice puddle on the bench...

Followed by a sniff, which was suprisingly good for a stout - a nice amout of coffee roast grain aroma undercut by a reasonably strong hoppiness. The first sip kind of blew my mind, really living up to the description on the can of a smooth creaminess balanced by a bitterness and light fruitiness that goes down a treat. The oats seemed to add a nice creaminess without really giving a heavy meatiness that an "oatmeal stout" might suggest. In fact I think it somehow managed to stay quite a light and easy drinking beer.

One of the most easy drinking stouts I've tasted, and a really nice demonstration of how to use new world hops to add a modern touch to a classic dark style.

Against all logic, I actually think this went down really well on a hot Summer's day (despite having just written that a light Summer Ale was too heavy for the same Summer's day...)
