Moa Brewing Co Thirsty Bulldog Summer Ale

I read the blurb on the back of this beer and thought it sounded real delicious... British hops on a strong British and NZ malt base, perfect for a Summer's day...

I think maybe this'd be perfect for a British Summer's day of 14 degrees, a bit overcast. It's alright, there's no bad flavours, and it looks nice and clear... But I think that's where the Summer-iness of it stops. It's a reasonably heavy feeling beer, with the British malts giving it a kind of thick bitterness, and the malt coming through, but again really giving more of a heaviness than lightness.

It's reasonbly well balanced and nice to drink, but I think overall if it had been advertised as a Winter Ale, and I would have drank it on a cold winter's night by the fire I would have enjoyed it more. Didn't particularly enjoy it on a 28 degree Summer evening in Hawke's Bay.

I really like Moa as a brewery, but unfortunately this one just wasn't quite a hit for me - I think it's an alright beer, but it's just in the wrong hemisphere in the wrong season.
