Yeastie Boys Karekare Kawakawa IPA
Another interesting creation from Yeastie Boys, with a very kiwi but very non-beer key ingredient, packed into the beer not as a subtle undertaste but as the most dominant flavour. This results in a completely unique beer, not like anything else I've ever tasted. Don't get me wrong, the beer definitely gave off delicious IPA qualities, with a nice malty richness, a fair bittering a and some nice hoppy aromas; but the aroma character of the hops took a back seat to the big Kawakawa flavour which had a very floral but almost lemonade ice block kind of feel. There was a good sweetness, I'm not sure if that was the kawakawa or just the malt, but it came together well, feeling a bit like a shandy but a bit like a good IPA. Not something I'd drink all night, but definitely enjoyed it for something a bit left field.
