Yeastie Boys Hugemouth Session DIPA
I do love a good double IPA. This guy is probably the best beer I've had from Wellington based Yeastie Boys so far, packing a nice bitterness, a good NZ hop flavour to dwell upon and a sneaking sweetness. The big malty undertone typical of an imperial IPA (an imperial anything I guess) was kind of lacking, and I think the bitterness could have been slightly stronger; so while it was big, it just wasn't quite as big as it's 7% ABV made me anticipate. I guess they call it a session DIPA (makes me think of an Aussie rollercoaster called the Big Dipper - say that with a strong Aussie accent) so I guess maybe the slightly subdued big but not huge flavour is what they wanted?
I like that they listed the hops on the can - Nelson Sauvin and Kohatu. I loved the flavours, and I'm very familiar with Nelson Sauvin, but not so much with Kohatu; so this beer has put Kohatu next on my "to brew with" list.
