Yeastie Boys Gunnamatta Earl Grey IPA
I don't min Earl Grey tea, but this beer has taught me that I don't really like it in beer. I don't think I could really get beyond the overpowering and distinctive Earl Gray flavour to actually enjoy the beer. From reading the Yeastie Boys website it would seem that there's a "decidedly old world twist" twist about this beer, perhaps suggestive of the use of some more traditional British hops; but I couldn't really get to any of that, just an overwhelming feeling that I was drinking a tea. I almsot had to add some milk. It maybe grew on me while I was drinking it (I like to finish a beer if I open it, but I found the first mouthful so unpleasant I did think about ditching it), by the end of the glass I didn't mind it too much and was starting to notice the bitterness a bit. I have another can in the fridge, and I have to admit I'm not really looking forward to it. I rarely write about beers I don't like, and it seems that when I do they are award winning beers like this one. So don't take my word for it, and go ahead and taste it yourself.
