Yeastie Boys Digital IPA
A kind of odd beer that I enjoyed more the second time than the first (matched well with perhaps the movie I was watching - Batman Ninja, perhaps the most bizarre madness I've ever watched). I think it smells better than it tastes, likely due to a generous dry hopping. The smell has that distinctive Nelson Sauvin "gooseberry" feel (again, I don't know what a gooseberry is, and I've sure as heck never tasted one, but that's the word that people use for it), but then when you take a slug, the hop flavour just isn't as big as you might expect. There is a slight odd hop flavour that I can't quite name and then a bitterness that is somehow not like a usual hop bitterness in its character, and not quite as bitter as I like for an IPA. The malt kind of goes with the Sauvin theme, feeling almost buttery (did they oak it?). Overall it's not a bad beer, but it just confused me because the flavours are in some way just not quite usual.
