Cargo Lager

I find this a bit of a hard beer to write about, cause it's good for all the opposite reasons I tend to ramble about. When a craft brewery releases a beer just as "lager", it's always hard to know what to think... Is this a flavourless draught beer to please the non-craft-beer-drinking-craft-beer-drinkers or is it a sacred masterpiece that some poor bugger has spent years perfecting? Brewing a good lager is much more finicky than a good ale, and any little tweak is more noticeable (like playing electric guitar with heavy distortion compared to accoustic for example).

This beer has a good but subtle malt flavour, a subtle hop bitterness and flavour and overall tastes very beery but not at all hoppy, malty or yeasty (or watery). Comes together really nicely for a little bit of everything blended together beautifully, rather than any one particularly good element. I'm not often in the mood for this type of beer, but when I am (today, for example) this is exactly what I'm after.

ABV: 5.0%
Brewery: Cargo
Region: Queenstown
