Abbey Hopfarm IPA
A big IPA with a decent bittering and a fairly pungent grapefruity and hint of tropical aromas. I think the malt character is a bit underdone for an IPA with such a big ABV and bitterness, almost reminding me of some of the low alcohol hoppy beers (Tuatara Iti or that Croucher Lowrider being the best examples I can think of). Looked nice with a good head and the slightest haze, and a nice sizzly bubble (I guess the true beer connoisseurs call that mouthfeel... so ahh, yep it felt good in my mouth).
Also I think Abbey Brewery is also a winery, and the only brewery in Hawkes Bay I haven't been to, and one of the few big wineries I haven't been to. And it's both a brewery and a winery so it seems like I've made a judgement error somewhere. It's on the list.
ABV: 6.5%
Brewery: Abbey Brewery
Region: Hawkes Bay
Style: IPA
Wife check: "It's a bit flavourless for an IPA isn't it?"
