Liberty Prohibition Porter

Whoooaah. Yep, again whooooaaaaaaaah. This is the most mind blowing beer I've had in a long time. So good. Soooo gooooood.

Bourbon barrel aged porter, it sounds good doesn't it. An article on Stuff from 2018 tells me it's 9 months aged in the barrels, but it definitely takes on a delicious oaky whiskey taste that's not at all subtle (and suited well to the high ABV). I couldn't believe the rich dark malty sweetness that came through despite such a high ABV (alcohol is made by converting sugar to alcohol, so to have a super sweet super high alcohol result you have to have a huuuuge malt bill to start with, or else add a non fermentable sugar like lactose [as is the case in "milk stout"]). There was a Hoppy bitterness in there somewhere too, but man, with a delicious complex flavour combination like this trying to write about individual flavours is redundant. This was almost like having a port. Man, it was good. So damn good.

Please sir, can I have some more?

ABV: 12.6%
Brewery: Liberty Brewing
Region: Hellensville (Auckland)
Style: Porter
Wife check: "Ergh yuck, it's like a spirit without any of that creamy dark beer flavour." (I strongly disagree with this comment, I would say all the delicious creamy dark beer flavours enhanced by an almost whiskey like elegance... Or something like that)
