Imagination (Ex-Indiginous) Black Barn Syrah Barrel Aged Gin

I couldn't help myself but write a little about this. I love how whiskey and wine get so much of their flavour from oak barrels; but in return give some of their flavour back to the barrel such that a different batch of something (be it a stout, a whiskey or a gin) can get a unique twinge of second hand barrel.

Indiginous Imagination gin is yum; clean, crisp, smooth and super heavy on the juniper berries (str8 outta Macedonia I'm told). This gin has the slightest pink haze through it, thanks to the Black Barn Syrah barrels it's aged in. That means that all the clever subtleties that went into that batch of wine, including whatever properties the oak give it, are all (in minute portions) contributing to this gin. The gin doesn't actually really have any red wine type flavour at all (a little disappointingly), but it's real yum, and I love a good unmeasured slurp of it with a few blocks of ice.

Made in Kapiti, and I'm told using almost all local NZ ingredients (hence the name) - although I hear you can't get Juniper berries (the key gingredient) locally.
