Cassels Lager

The third beer I've tried from Cassels (after the Milk Stout and the Red IPA), and so far all have been big chewy beers (in short stumpy bottles). Following in that suit this is a nice strong and heavy lager, definitely more of a cold day lager than a hot day lager.

I like that it's a real thick strong lager without being hop driven - the hop flavour is there but it's not really an overly hoppy beer - which sets it apart from most other NZ beers marketed simply as lager - most are either light on body and flavour and very easy to drink (in the sun) or else they're overwhelmingly hoppy (or a combination of both). This beer breaks that mould and delivers a big powerful lager (although not that strong in alcohol at 4.3%) that I think would go great with a char grilled venison steak.
