Another Crack at Spent Grain Burger Patties

I had my heart set on making some decent burger patties made from spent grains, so I had another crack, and here's the progression over a few days.

The short version is, there is nothing you can do to get rid of the cardboard taste, but if you add enough spices and sauce and other stuff they can be edible. They're full of fibre (you'll know about that the next day...), and apparently full of protein (see my other bit about spent grains).

I drained them, then put about 3-4 cups of drained spent grains in the blender, and blitzed as much as I could (because last time the problem was the pop-corn kind of hunks of husk that would get stuck in your teeth and be quite unpleasant). Then store all that stuff in the fridge. Never leave it uncovered anywhere, even for 10 minutes, or you will end up with billions of fruit flies and regular flies making their new home in your house.

I mixed a few spoonfulls with an egg, mixed it up, then added a bunch of salt, pepper, cumin, caraway seeds, and some chilli flakes. I found adding smoked paprika was really good... really whatever kind of spices you add you need lots of flavour because the grains themselves taste quite foul.

In the end, I don't think I'll do it again. But here's what I came up with:

Avo's and Tomatoes on Toast, Homemade Sauerkraut and Spent Grain Patties with Sriracha Sauce.

Spent Grain Patties, Avocado Slices, Sauerkraut and Chilli Sauce.

Spent Grain Patties, Spelt bread, Homemade Sauerkraut, Sauteed Cherry Tomatoes, Undercooked Fried Egg and Cucumber Slices.
