Zeelandt Brewery Good Thief Pilsner
I went in to buy a beer today, thinking I felt like a Czech pilsner, hoping to get a Pilsner Urquell or something similar. They didn't have any European Pilsners, but I found this, another local brewery that prides themselves on making European beers true to style. (The modern NZ Pilsner is a nice style, but far more aromatic fruity hops flavour than the traditional European Pilsner, which also a super hoppy beer, but driven with bitter noble hops rather than the modern fruity aromas.)
This beer hit the spot perfectly, smashingly good strong bitter hops flavour on a good malt backbone, crystal clear and pale in the glass. And no hint of new world NZ or US hops. I'm not sure if they use Czech or German hops (Saaz being the classic Pilsner hop), or the NZ derivatives of these which can give similar flavours if used in the right way, but either way they've achieved their goal of making a delicious beer in the true classic style; it just so happened to be exactly what I was in the mood for on this moderately sunny beautiful Hawke's Bay afternoon.
